Case Study - Pallet Loading onto Narrow Walkway
Client: Specialist provider of Furnace and Heat Treament Site Services
Problem:
Existing mezzanine floor occupying the full length of the building with offices and storerooms. Access to the storerooms is via two 2000mm standard height double doors opening onto the walkway in two places.
Existing pallet loading access to walkway were two swing out gates in the walkway barrier. Pallets were loaded with cardboard boxes upto 1850mm high. As the walkway was less than the pallet depth the storeroom doors had to be open to create enough land space.
A risk assessment highlighted the danger of personnel, who were constantly using the walkway for access to the offices, of falling through the open gates or coming into contact with moving loads
Solution:
Existing gates were removed and replaced with two of the Mezzbarriers Omega Nu Mk1 models bolted to wall and braced back to storeroom wall.
Inner gate was designed to fold down within the open storeroom doors allowing safe access for loading full size pallets whilst protecting all personnel from potential danger.
Design, manufacture, installation and testing provided by Dales’ in-house mezzanine barrier division.
