Pallet Loading on to Narrow Walkway
Client: Specialist provider of Furnace and Heat Treatment Site Services
Problems:

Existing mezzanine floor occupying the full length of the building with offices and storerooms. Access to the storerooms is via two 2000 mm standard height double doors opening onto the walkway in two places.

Existing pallet loading access to the walkway was two swing-out gates in the walkway barrier.
- Pallets were loaded with cardboard boxes up to 1850 mm high. As the walkway width was less than the pallet depth, the storeroom doors had to be opened to create enough loading space.
- A risk assessment highlighted the danger of personnel, who were constantly using the walkway for access between offices, of falling through the open gates or coming into contact with moving loads.
Omega-Nu Space-saving fold-up safety pallet gate
Solution:

Existing gates were removed and replaced with two of the Mezzbarriers Omega-Nu space-saving safety pallet gates.

The inner gate was designed to fold down within the open storeroom doors, allowing safe access for loading full-size pallets whilst protecting all personnel from potential danger.

Once pallets were safely landed, the inner gate could be folded up, closing the edge gate. A pallet truck was used to pull the pallet backwards into the storeroom. Which allowed personnel safe passage along the walkway.
